The Story

Viñedo Chadwick 2022 is a masterfully structured, exceptionally elegant, and regal Chilean icon red wine that serves as a monument to the Maipo Valley terroir. Sourced entirely from the high-altitude alluvial gravel terraces of the historic Puente Alto estate—formerly the personal polo field of Alfonso Chadwick—this magnificent vintage shaped by a cooler summer displays a striking, bright purple hue. The nose opens with an intense, multidimensional bouquet of cassis, ripe blackcurrants, and wild cherries, beautifully complexed by nuances of fresh violets, graphite, tobacco leaves, and cedar wood. On the palate, it exhibits a full-bodied, loose-limbed yet remarkably focused framework, combining a concentrated core of dark forest fruits with high, vibrant natural acidity and ultra-fine, cashmere-like tannins. Having aged for 18 to 20 months in a combination of new French oak barrels and Stockinger foudres, it culminates in an extraordinarily long, sophisticated finish with a lingering chalky and mineral-filled persistence.

Food Pairing: Pairs spectacularly with charcoal-grilled dry-aged ribeye steak, roasted venison loin with a juniper reduction, slow-braised wild boar stew, or a rosemary-crusted rack of lamb.

98 Points - James Suckling

Aromas of blackcurrants, crushed stone, bay leaves, graphite, violets and some rust. Full-bodied with layers of velvety tannins that turn to cashmere. Juicy and flavorful. Needs time to open. It’s extremely structured and solid. Best after 2027.

98 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2022 Viñedo Chadwick is equal parts composed and commanding, entering with an aromatic intensity that stays under the surface but holds excellent energy and power. The nose is darkly fruited, herbal and wonderfully gravel-laden and toasted, displaying pitch-perfect harmony between all elements. The texture is sumptuous yet graceful, displaying fantastic poise and clarity through its classically structured framing and balance. The finish calls back the nose's multidimensionality, simultaneously achieving a flashy, rugged persistence housed in an exquisite, understated and nuanced package. This is a real work of art that should deliver immense pleasure for two decades. It's a blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot, aged for 18 months in predominantly barrique with a small portion of foudre.

95 Points - Wine Spectator

This complex and multilayered effort lures you in with fresh violet, crushed fennel seed, damp earth and graphite aromas that give way to a rich, commanding and well-defined core of black cherry, plum and cassis. A subtle saline edge checks in, lending a mouthwatering quality as this moves to the lengthy finish around dense, structured tannins, plus late echoes of dried mint and bay leaf. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2040.
