The Story
Marchesi Antinori Tignanello 2022 is a historic and highly sought-after Super Tuscan that brilliantly navigates a warm vintage to deliver extraordinary concentration, energy, and elegance. This iconic blend of 78% Sangiovese, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4% Cabernet Franc pours a deep ruby red with flashes of purple. The nose is remarkably expressive, offering a captivating bouquet of ripe black cherries, cassis, and bramble fruit, lifted by delicate violet florals, sweet pipe tobacco, and a distinctive graphite minerality. On the palate, it is rich, full-bodied, and beautifully poised. A generous core of savory dark fruit and sweet spice is perfectly framed by velvety, superbly integrated tannins and a striking, fresh natural acidity. Cultivated from the steep, well-draining soils of the celebrated Tignanello vineyard, it concludes with a long, graceful, and deeply polished finish that promises outstanding longevity in the cellar.
Food Pairing: Pairs magnificently with Bistecca alla Fiorentina (traditional Florentine grilled T-bone steak), roasted rack of lamb, rich wild boar ragù, or aged Pecorino cheese.
Rich and fruit-forward, the Marchesi Antinori 2022 Tignanello very much respects the vintage that tends to deliver more concentration and volume overall. It delivers extra fruit weight with a velvety, satiny feel over a generous mouthfeel. Tignanello offers blackcurrant and cherry, but there is a mineral note that keeps things focused. This is a beautiful expression of the vintage, with excellent work done to execute soft tannins, texture and length.
James Suckling
There’s extraordinary energy in this wine. It displays a dark nose of black cherries, bramble fruit, violets, forest, licorice, bark, carob and leather. Density and tension dominate the full-bodied palate, with firm, velvety tannins. It’s slightly austere in the finish at the moment, yet it’s crunchy and full of potential.
