The Story
Seña 2022 is an extraordinarily refined, vibrant, and monumentally complex biodynamic icon Chilean red blend that masterfully showcases the unique, cool-climate hillside terroir of the Ocoa vineyard in the Aconcagua Valley. Born from a legacy of elegance, this dry vintage uncoils with an incredibly fragrant and expressive bouquet reminiscent of walking into a flower shop, brimming with bright violets, lavender, and citrus blossoms before giving way to deeper layers of fresh blueberries, wild tarragon, graphite, and cedar wood. On the palate, it exhibits a medium- to full-bodied, beautifully tailored framework where a succulent and pure core of dark forest fruits is drivingly balanced by a precise vein of mouthwatering linear acidity and ultra-fine, cashmere-textured tannins that effortlessly coat the mouth. Having aged gracefully for nearly two years in French oak barriques and Stockinger foudres, it finishes with aristocratic poise, energy, and a lingering, savory complexity.
Food Pairing: Pairs spectacularly with charcoal-grilled dry-aged ribeye steak, roasted venison loin with a juniper reduction, rosemary-crusted rack of lamb, or slow-braised wild boar stew.
98 Points - James Suckling
97 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 Seña enters on a reticent note, quietly opening up to reveal a dark, leather-bound nose with hints of turned earth, cedar, licorice and graphite accents that manage a levity and high-toned energy. The palate is lively and spry, driven by bright treble tones balanced with weighty, broad depth and a perfectly suave texture. The finish is juicy yet tense, structured and refined, with impressive length and coiled energy. Ever-expanding in the glass, this is a gorgeous, energetic and exuberant example of poise and clarity that should be a pleasure to follow in the cellar. It's a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec, 9% Carmenere and 6% Petit Verdot aged 18 months mainly in French barrique with some foudre.
93 Points - Wine Spectator
Elegant and balanced, this offers floral blueberry and cocoa nib details inflected with lemon thyme and anise notes. The palate is smooth in texture, with generous plum and berry flavors. There's a late burst of energy, yet this keeps its focus around polished tannins and a late twinge of coffee bean. Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Carmenère and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2035.
