The Story
Domaine Rollin Père et Fils Pernand-Vergelesses Premier Cru 'Les Fichots' 2022 is an exceptionally structured, concentrated, and brooding French red wine that brilliantly showcases the deeper, muscular side of the Pernand appellation. Sourced from the family's exceptionally old plot—with vines averaging over 70 years of age—in a clay-and-iron-dominated terroir, this 100% Pinot Noir pours a beautiful dark ruby color in the glass. The nose is highly expressive and complex, opening with an aromatic bouquet of dark cherries, ripe plums, and subtle vanilla spice, layered with earthy undertones of forest floor, black tea leaves, and wild violets. On the palate, this medium-bodied masterpiece is dense and fleshy, capturing the rich warmth of the 2022 vintage without sacrificing its regional precision. A solid core of succulent dark berries and redcurrants is effortlessly balanced by a vibrant, racy acidity and a fine, firm backbone of compact tannins, culminating in a long, savory finish accented by a touch of cracked black pepper and a distinct mineral drive.
Food Pairing: This structured and deeply flavorful Burgundy pairs magnificently with slow-cooked duck ragù over fresh pasta, roasted venison loin with a berry reduction, grilled lamb chops, mushroom risotto, or semi-firm cheeses like classic Comté, Tomme de Savoie, and Reblochon.
94 Points - James Suckling
This Pernand Vergellesses combines the power that the wine lovers of the world expect from 1er cru red Burgundy with the mountain freshness of this appellation. Impressive combination of floral effusiveness and darker, more minerally notes, and this adds to the tension in the wine. Long, very focused finish. One quarter from 90-year-old vines. Sustainable. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.
