The Story
Pol Roger Rosé Vintage 2018 is an exceptionally structured, intense, and deeply gastronomic vintage Champagne crafted only in years of outstanding ripeness. It is produced from a blend of 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay drawn from approximately 20 Premier and Grand Cru vineyards across the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. To achieve its lovely pale salmon color with delicate pink and golden hues, roughly 15% of still Pinot Noir from the famed crus of Bouzy, Ambonnay, and Cumières is vinified "en rouge" and added to the blend before the secondary fermentation. Undergoing careful malolactic fermentation and aged for over five years in the house’s deepest, coolest subterranean chalk cellars, the nose opens with an expressive basket of red berries, including fresh raspberry, redcurrant, and wild strawberry, intertwined with exotic nuances of mango, papaya, honeysuckle, and rose petals. On the palate, this full-bodied, vinous Champagne delivers a silky, mouth-filling texture where a succulent core of candied citrus, sour cherry, and light pastry notes is uplifted by a driving spine of crisp, refreshing acidity and an incredibly fine, velvety mousse, leading into a long, focused finish marked by a distinctively chalky, saline mineral edge.
Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with grilled salmon, fresh tuna tartare, duck breast with cranberry reduction, assorted sushi, or a forced rhubarb fruit fool.
95 Points - James Suckling
This has fragrant aromas of strawberries, hibiscus, blood oranges and a hint of mint. Delightfully bright, concentrated and fruit-driven, with a medium body, tight bubbles and a long, mouthwatering and delicious finish. Dry. Pinot noir and chardonnay plus 16% red wine. Drink or hold.
94 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Generous and demonstrative, shaped by the warm, early-ripening growing season, Pol Roger's 2018 Brut Rosé, disgorged in July 2024 with a dosage of eight grams per liter, bursts from the glass with a pretty bouquet of raspberry, cranberry and rose water, mingling with brioche and honeysuckle. On the palate, it reveals a full-bodied, broad-shouldered and textural profile, structured and vibrant, boasting a dense core of luscious fruit. A pillowy mousse and ripe yet lively acidity lend energy, guiding it toward a long, perfumed finish. Comprising 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay, this is a gastronomic rosé Champagne, built to age gracefully and pair beautifully with dishes such as red meat or tuna.
