The Story
Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2016 is an exceptionally structured, opulent, and beautifully balanced vintage Champagne crafted from a traditional house blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay sourced from 20 illustrious Grand and Premier Cru vineyards across the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. Displaying a pale yellow hue with bright silver highlights and a remarkably fine, persistent stream of microscopic bubbles, this expressive cuvée opens with an open and alluring bouquet of dried fruits, cocoa, almond, and coconut, layered harmoniously alongside richer evolved notes of fresh pastry, nectarine, and candied orange peel. On the palate, it exhibits a full-bodied, vinous, and fleshy texture that seamlessly balances its voluptuous core of ripe orchard fruits against a driving, linear backbone of crisp, racy acidity and a pretty, pinpoint mousse. Having spent a remarkable six to seven years maturing on its fine lees in the house's deep, subterranean chalk cellars in Épernay, it culminates in an incredibly long, noble, and savory finish defined by a penetrating, saline-infused chalky mineral edge.
Food Pairing: Pairs exquisitely with pan-seared chicken supreme with chanterelle mushrooms, roasted duck breast, pan-seared sea scallops, or decadent butter-poached lobster tails.
A very elegant and silky vintage Champagne with a seamless harmony of candied citrus fruit, sushi ginger and dried cherry character with racy acidity and delicate minerality at the long, straight and refined finish. You don’t even think about how much or little dosage this has. Drink or hold.
95 Points - Wine Enthusiast
The 2016 Brut Vintage reveals a complex, gourmand bouquet with aromas of ripe orchard fruits, nectarine, pastry, nuts, sweet spices and ripe white fruits, signs of a warm vintage. Full-bodied, broad and vinous with a fleshy core of fruit, it’s rich and elegant with a penetrating, saline finish. It will drink at its peak in five to 10 years.
