The Story
Planeta Etna Bianco 2023 is a remarkably pure, vibrant, and beautifully architectural organic white wine that showcases the striking volcanic terroir of Sicily's Mount Etna. Crafted entirely from indigenous Carricante grapes grown 690 to 720 meters above sea level at the Feudo di Mezzo estate, it pours a bright pale-straw yellow with shimmering silver-green glints. The nose is highly aromatic and evocative, opening with a cooling wave of white acacia flowers, fresh green almonds, and mountain peaches, seamlessly integrated with crushed pumice, wild Mediterranean herbs, and a smoky mineral edge. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, lithe, and bursting with electric energy. A concentrated, "crunchy" core of yellow plum, fresh lime, and prickly pear is perfectly balanced by a razor-sharp spine of vertical acidity. Vinified 80% in stainless steel and 20% in large French oak barrels before resting on its fine lees, it culminates in an exceptionally long, clean finish defined by an intensely savory, mouthwatering saline snap.
Food Pairing: Pairs gorgeously with raw seafood crudo, spaghetti alle vongole, grilled prawns with lemon, fresh sea urchin, and herbed goat cheese.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The savory, herbaceous nose brings aromas of wild herbs, preserved lemons, and new leather, plus hints of flowers and nuts. On the palate, the citrus sweetens and the nuttiness expands, before fierce acid pops on the finish.
