The Story

The flagship wine of Château Léoville Las Cases showcases intense aromas of cassis, blackberry, graphite, cedar, violet, and cigar box. Powerful yet impeccably refined, it combines remarkable concentration, seamless tannins, vibrant freshness, and extraordinary length with exceptional aging potential.

Food Pairing: Pair with beef Wellington, grilled ribeye, roast lamb, venison, duck confit, truffle dishes, aged Comté, or braised short ribs.

97 Points -

This is more exotic and monstrous than the 2000. It is like a muscle builder, with lots of round and rich tannins and a core of dark fruits like black cherries and blueberries. Still very young, but structured and in need of five more years. Don’t touch this until 2015.
97 Points -
Incredible nose of crushed berry, licorice, violets and lightly toasted oak. Pure crème de cassis. Full-bodied, with big, velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Solid.
95 Points -
One of the successes of the vintage, the 2003 Léoville Las Cases becomes more and more reminiscent of the 1982 as it ages. Wafting from the glass with aromas of cassis, pencil shavings, petroleum jelly and vanilla pod, it's medium to full-bodied, with a broad, fleshy profile and a concentrated core of fruit framed by ripe, velvety tannins. It's undeniably high pH in profile, but not to excess.
94 Points -
This is massive, hugely concentrated, topped with wood and intense tannins. Flavors of bitter chocolate are dominant, heavy fruits, blackberries and texture that fills the mouth with dark, dense flavors. Big in all senses.
