The Story
Laphroaig Cairdeas 2025 Lore Cask Strength is a highly celebrated annual limited-edition release created especially for the Friends of Laphroaig community. For 2025, the distillery delivered a powerful, cask-strength interpretation of its revered core expression, Laphroaig Lore. By marrying five of the distillery's most distinct and favorite cask styles—including ex-bourbon barrels, quarter casks, virgin oak, and European oak sherry butts—this single malt weaves a remarkably complex story. The nose opens with an intense wave of classic Islay peat smoke and salty sea spray, beautifully balanced by sweet aromas of apricot, peaches in syrup, lemon cream, and vanilla fudge. On the palate, it delivers a dramatic and oily explosion of smoky ash and maritime brine, building into a peppery sparkle of ginger, clove, and cumin before revealing background notes of mint tea, caramel, and salted limes. The finish is exceptionally long, warm, and rich, leaving a deep, antiseptic trace of heavy peat softened by a lingering citrus and fudge sweetness.
Food Pairing: Sticky barbecued beef brisket, heavily charred lamb chops, high-quality dark chocolate with sea salt, or a powerful, creamy blue cheese like Stilton.
