Released to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Friends of Laphroaig, this special edition pays homage to two of the most popular past expressions in the series: 2019’s Triple Wood and 2021’s PX Cask. The single malt was first matured in over-charred first-fill and second-fill ex-bourbon barrels along with smaller quarter casks, before receiving a final finishing period in rich Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. On the nose, it greets you with an inviting aroma of Brazil nut toffee brittle, sweet vanilla custard, and baking spices, layered beneath Laphroaig’s signature medicinal, briny peat smoke and chocolate-covered raisins. The palate is deeply rich and oily, beautifully balancing heavy campfire smoke with sweet notes of smoked orange toffee, stewed peaches, and dark chocolate dates. The finish is remarkably long, warm, and peppery, drying down to reveal lingering hints of coffee grounds, liquorice root, and sweet, salty peat.
Food Pairing: Sticky maple barbecued pork ribs, dark chocolate tarts with sea salt, rich blue cheeses like Roquefort, or smoked oysters.
