The Story

Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aîné Cornas Domaine de Saint Pierre is an exceptional, deeply expressive, and highly refined Northern Rhône red wine produced from a tiny, 3.9-hectare single parcel of ancient Syrah vines. Situated near the historic chapel of Saint-Pierre at the absolute highest elevation point of the Cornas appellation—over 400 meters above sea level—these vines are cultivated using strict organic and biodynamic farming methods on incredibly steep, southeast-facing granite terraces. In the glass, it exhibits a dense, opaque purple-ruby color. The highly aromatic and complex nose bursts with intense notes of wild blackberries, fresh blueberries, and dark cherries, beautifully layered with classic Northern Rhône undertones of cracked black pepper, flinty graphite, black olives, and subtle smoky, gamy mineral accents. On the palate, the wine is medium-to-full-bodied, powerful, and muscular, yet it manages to marry its full-throttle Cornas power with a surprisingly sleek, velvety texture. Its deep, concentrated core of succulent dark fruit is impeccably framed by firm, energetic tannins and a vibrant, crisp natural acidity that provides remarkable tension, driving through to an extremely long, dense, and savory finish.

Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with classic roasted rack of lamb, slow-braised wild boar stew, pan-seared duck breast, and mature hard cheeses.
