The Story
Glenmorangie The Nectar 16 Year Old is a sumptuous and decadent Highland single malt Scotch whisky crafted to capture the dessert-like complexity of a French pastry shop. An evolution of the distillery's famous Nectar D'Or expression, this reimagined version undergoes a longer aging process and a highly complex secondary maturation. The spirit is first matured for 14 years in American white oak ex-bourbon casks to establish a silky, creamy baseline. It is then finished for an additional two years in a hand-selected combination of four sweet white wine casks: French Sauternes and Monbazillac, Spanish Moscatel, and Hungarian Tokaji. The nose is incredibly heady and rich, bursting with notes of warm baking brioche, peach syrup, baked apricot, and vanilla pudding. On the palate, it has an unctuous, sticky texture beautifully balanced by lemon zest, cinnamon French toast, white chocolate, flaked almonds, and sweet honeycomb. The finish is long and lingering with delicate traces of baking bread, orange syrup, and sweet wood spice.
Food Pairing Designed with "dessert-like complexity" in mind, this sweet and rich single malt is the ultimate partner for French pastries and fruit-forward desserts. It pairs exquisitely with classic lemon tarts, almond croissants, apple tarte tatin, white chocolate macadamia cookies, or vanilla crème brûlée. For a savory contrast, try it alongside roasted duck breast with an orange glaze, or a selection of blue cheeses and creamy Brie served with fresh honeycomb.
