The Story
Glenmorangie 25 Year Old 'The Altus' is an exceptionally elegant and luxurious single malt Scotch whisky that represents a pinnacle within the distillery's permanent core range. Distilled in Scotland’s tallest stills—which yield an incredibly light, delicate, and fruity spirit—The Altus spends a quarter of a century aging. The vast majority of its long maturation takes place in Glenmorangie's bespoke, slow-growth American white oak designer bourbon casks. To add marvelous complexity, Master of Whisky Creation Dr. Bill Lumsden marries this liquid with a select amount of 25-year-old whisky finished in rare Malmsey Madeira wine casks, serving as a homage to the distillery's legendary 1995 pioneer release.
Food Pairing: Sweet roasted duck breast with an orange glaze, pan-seared scallops, apple tart tatin, almond croissants, or a premium creamy blue cheese.
TASTING NOTES - A brilliant amber-gold with stunning clarity. It boasts a silky, opulent, and velvety texture that coats the mouth luxuriously with an oily and luscious weight.
NOSE - A highly fragrant and soft floral bouquet of carnation, rose, and orange blossom entwined with warm honey, rich vanilla, ripe peach, almonds, and a touch of nutty toffee.
PALATE - Luscious and deep, bursting with bright fruit layers of mandarin orange, red apple, pear, and peach, balanced nicely by a pop of tart gooseberry and yellow plum. Rich waves of butter-candy follow, melting into soft marzipan, icing sugar, oak, and ripe banana.
FINISH - Long, incredibly smooth, and harmoniously balanced, lingering with an elegant echo of orchard fruits and a delicate, creamy sweetness.
SERVE - Best served neat at room temperature in a Glencairn glass or tulip-shaped nosing glass. Allow it to sit for a few minutes to unlock its layered, deep floral and wood-sugar bouquet.
