The Story
Gérard Bertrand Le Viala 2020 is a powerful, exceptionally well-crafted biodynamic red wine from the prestigious Minervois La Livinière appellation in the Languedoc region of the South of France. A masterful blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan sourced from a unique, sun-drenched mosaic of stripped marlstone and chalky limestone soils at Château Laville Bertrou, it reveals a profound, deep garnet hue in the glass. The bouquet is highly expressive and generous, showcasing intense aromas of exceptionally ripe black fruits, crushed blackberries, and dark cherries, gracefully woven with elegant floral notes of violet, wild Mediterranean herbs, and rich, woody undertones derived from 12 months of careful maturation in fine French oak barrels. On the palate, it is full-bodied, robust, and incredibly inviting, delivering a silky, velvety texture balanced by refined, smooth tannins and a beautifully integrated structure. A vibrant underlying minerality carries through to an infinitely long, complex finish, promising outstanding aging potential.
Food Pairing: Pairs wonderfully with grilled red meats, slow-cooked lamb shank, rich game stews, roasted duck, or a selection of fine, mature artisan cheeses.
