The Story
Domaine Dugat-Py Monthélie 1er Cru Les Riottes Rouge 2023 is a highly refined and expressive red Burgundy that marks an exciting addition to the domain's lineup, following their acquisition of prime Côte de Beaune parcels (formerly of Domaine Newman). Sourced from 45-year-old vines in the under-the-radar, high-quality "Les Riottes" vineyard, this wine beautifully embodies the modern direction of thirteenth-generation winemaker Loïc Dugat-Py. To capture the pure, elegant terroir of the vintage, the 2023 vinification utilizes 50% whole-cluster fermentation and a highly disciplined oak regimen featuring only 10% new French oak. In the glass, it reveals a luminous, bright red ruby color. The bouquet is remarkably poised and airborne, leaping forward with pretty aromas of fresh raspberry, wild blackberry, and sappy undertones, accented by delicate baking spices and a hint of white pepper. On the palate, it is beautifully clear and balanced, delivering juicy, succulent red fruit framed by ultra-fine, chalky limestone tannins and a refreshing line of acidity that leads into a persistent, elegant finish.
Food Pairing: Roasted duck breast, pan-seared squab, roasted quail, pork loin with rosemary, or wild mushroom tart.
