The Story
Domaine Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée Coeur de Roy Très Vieilles Vignes 2022 is a stunning, deeply concentrated village-level wine produced from parcels of ancient vines ranging from 50 to nearly 100 years old. Reflecting the modern evolution of the domain under Loïc Dugat-Py, the 2022 vintage shifts beautifully away from historical over-extraction, utilizing 50% whole-cluster fermentation and a dialed-back 40% new French oak regime. In the glass, it shows a bright, glossy ruby profile. The aromatics are perfumed and forward, delivering vivid layers of fresh strawberry, pomegranate, and dark cherries intermingled with hints of rose petals, cracked pepper, and subtle forest floor. On the palate, it balances intense, old-vine fruit density with an ethereal, lithe texture, supported by seamless, fine-grained tannins and a vibrant core of natural acidity that carries into a long, beautifully balanced finish.
Food Pairing: Roasted duck breast, pan-seared squab, wild mushroom risotto, or aged Comté cheese.
92 Points - Wine Advocate
Tasted from a bottle that saw fully 24 months' élevage (which will be indicated on the label), the 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur du Roy is much more civilized than it was from barrel, offering up a pretty bouquet of red berries, plums and orange rind mingled with rose petals and incense. Medium to full-bodied, succulent and seamless, with integrated tannins and a lively, harmonious profile, it will offer a broader drinking window than I had originally anticipated.
