The Story
Domaine Chante Cigale Chateauneuf-Du-Pape 2023 is a classic, deeply expressive, and beautifully balanced Southern Rhône red wine produced from organically farmed estate vineyards. In the glass, it reveals a rich purple-ruby color with youthful violet glints. The nose is highly fragrant and layered, opening with intense aromas of ripe black cherries, wild strawberries, and sweet damsons, interwoven with complex undertones of underbrush, white pepper, licorice, and warm cinnamon spice. On the palate, this wine is full-bodied, generous, and softly textured, offering a luscious wealth of sweet red and black fruits. Balanced by a vibrant freshness and framed by plush, harmonious tannins, it leaves a creamy, lasting impression accented by savory notes of roasted coffee bean and garrigue.
Food Pairing: The combination of rich fruit textures, warm spices, and supple tannins in this Châteauneuf-du-Pape makes it an outstanding partner for hearty and deeply savory dishes. It pairs beautifully with traditional roasted leg of lamb crusted with garlic and herbes de Provence, grilled duck breast with a cherry reduction, or slow-cooked beef stews. It is also an excellent complement to rich, comforting vegetarian dishes like a lentil and vegetable moussaka, wild mushroom risottos, or a rustic charcuterie board loaded with cured meats and aged, hard cheeses.
94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
Based on 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, and 5% Cinsault from a mix of terroirs, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape was partially destemmed and aged 18 months in concrete with smaller portions in foudre and demi-muids. This fabulous classic cuvée offers Provençal aromatics of black cherries, roasted garrigue, licorice, and black olives. Pure, focused, and seamless, it delivers medium to full-bodied richness with terrific mid-palate depth, a supple, elegant mouthfeel, and integrated tannins. It's a gorgeous expression that will drink beautifully over the coming decade.
