The Story

Gordon & Macphail Connoisseur's Choice Inchgower 19 Year Old 2005 #300414 is a rare, single-cask expression of the often-underrated Inchgower single malt, meticulously curated by the legendary independent bottler Gordon & Macphail. Distilled in 2005 and patiently aged for 19 years in a single refill sherry hogshead (Cask #300414), this bottling captures Inchgower’s notoriously complex, slightly coastal, and structurally hefty spirit. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 51.9% ABV without chill-filtration or added color, it offers a beautifully layered marriage of rich sherry wood influence, deep baking spices, and a unique maritime-herbal complexity.

Food Pairing: This robust and heavily sherried single malt pairs beautifully with savory, rich dishes such as pan-seared duck breast with a dark cherry reduction, roasted venison, or slow-cooked pork belly. It also stands up exceptionally well to bold blue cheeses like Stilton, a slice of dark chocolate torte, or roasted walnuts.

TASTING NOTES - A brilliant amber hue. The texture is full-bodied, smooth, and beautifully creamy, with a warming and expansive weight on the palate.

NOSE - Sweet and inviting milk chocolate aromas intertwine seamlessly with dark raisin, toffee, and a hint of warm baking spices.

PALATE - Smooth and deeply flavorful. Decadent notes of creamy stewed berries and crisp red apples coat the mouth before evolving into a prominent wave of spicy black pepper and a touch of herbal complexity.

FINISH - Medium-bodied, warm, and highly satisfying. The initial fruitiness gives way to lingering spices and a distinct note of ripe Morello cherry.

SERVE - Best enjoyed neat in a Glencairn glass. Due to its cask-strength proof, adding a few drops of pure water is highly recommended to temper the black pepper spice and unravel the delicate berry and chocolate characteristics.
