The Story

Castiglion del Bosco Millecento Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2016 is a monumental and highly structured expression of 100% Sangiovese reflecting a legendary growing season in Tuscany. Sourced from the estate's historic 8-hectare parcel planted in schistous galestro soils at an elevation of 400 meters, this exceptional vintage underwent extended maceration before being meticulously matured for 36 months in large French oak barrels, followed by further resting in unglazed concrete. In the glass, it displays a luminous, deep ruby-red color with delicate garnet reflections. The intricately layered nose unveils captivating aromas of ripe black cherries, wild plums, and crushed violets, beautifully interwoven with sophisticated undertones of cedar, graphite, sweet tobacco, iron, and crushed stones. On the palate, the wine demonstrates remarkable power, elegance, and finesse, delivering a deeply concentrated core of dark fruit perfectly balanced by a driving acidity and formidable yet fine-grained tannins, culminating in an extraordinarily long, persistent, and savory finish.

Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with braised short ribs, robust wild boar ragù, grilled Florentine steaks, roasted lamb, truffle-infused dishes, and aged Parmigiano-Reggiano.

97 Points - James Suckling

Blueberries and cherries with hints of cedar and spice, as well as plenty of mixed dried flowers, including violets. Some graphite and stone, too. Medium-to full-bodied with racy tannins and a long, long finish. It’s linear and complete, with lovely elegance and structure. Try after 2024.

97 Points - Wine Spectator

This red reveals both power and finesse, with intense aromas of truffle, black currant, violet and iron leading off, backed by saturated dark berry fruit, floral, leather and tobacco flavors. Big, muscular tannins grab hold of the finish, with ample fruit in reserve. Best from 2026 through 2045.

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast

Camphor, forest floor, pipe tobacco and new leather aromas make their way to the forefront. Bold and full-bodied, the palate offers fleshy black cherry, prune, licorice and espresso alongside velvety tannins. Drink 2025–2031. Kerin O’Keefe
