The Story
Lapostolle Cuvée Alexandre Merlot 2022 is an incredibly elegant, bright, and beautifully structured Chilean red wine that captures the exceptional terroir and microclimate of the legendary Apalta vineyard. Cultivated under strict organic and biodynamic principles on the granite and clay slopes of the Colchagua Valley, this blend is composed primarily of Merlot masterfully enhanced with a small percentage of Carmenère before aging for 12 months in French oak barrels. In the glass, it reveals a captivating, deep ruby-red color with a vibrant cherry edge. The highly expressive nose opens with enticing scents of red raspberry, ripe wild strawberry, and dark plum, complexly layered with nuanced undertones of fresh herbs, vanilla bean, and a delicate hint of earthy toast. On the palate, the wine is medium-to-full-bodied and texturally pleasing, showcasing a seamless fluid coherence where its core of juicy black cherry and cassis is effortlessly framed by round, silky-smooth tannins and a perfectly balanced thread of natural acidity, concluding with a long, elegant finish marked by lingering notes of coffee bean and savory baking spices.
Food Pairing: Pairs wonderfully with roasted turkey with cranberry sauce, spaghetti and meatballs, pasta Amatriciana, pan-seared duck breast, or aged gouda.
