The Story

Serving as the indulgent, cask-driven counterpart to the foundational 16.1 release, Bruichladdich Octomore 16.2 brilliantly illustrates how complex, multi-layered wood management can reshape super-heavily peated spirit. Distilled in 2019 from the 2018 harvest of 100% Scottish Mainland Concerto barley and peated to an immense 101.4 PPM, this expression spent five years maturing in an intricate sequence of European oak. It was initially aged in a premium selection of Oloroso sherry and Bordeaux red wine casks before being recasked into sweet Madeira and Portuguese Moscatel casks for its final year of maturation. The nose opens with an expansive bouquet of antique copper elegance, where soft dried figs, sultanas, and sun-baked tropical fruits mingle with delicate notes of honeysuckle, orange blossom, and toasted oak under a rich canopy of sweet campfire smoke. On the palate, it delivers a dense, luxurious texture featuring layers of caramelized sugar, crème brûlée, dark chocolate-covered cherries, and roasted hazelnuts, framed by warming wood spices, wine tannins, and persistent, earthy peat. The finish is exceptionally long, sweet, and smoky, leaving a crisp maritime freshness alongside a deep trail of spiced oak, dark fruits, and lingering sea salt.

Food Pairing: Duck breast with a cherry or plum reduction, sticky barbecued ribs, rich blue cheeses like Stilton, or high-end dark chocolate nut brittle.
