The Story

Borgogno No Name 2022 is an incredibly charming, sophisticated, and deeply expressive red wine with a legendary story of quiet rebellion. Created by the historic Giacomo Borgogno estate as an "Etichetta di Protesta" (Protest Label) against the rigid bureaucratic tasting panels of the region, this declassified Barolo is widely celebrated as one of the absolute greatest values in the entire world of fine wine. Pouring a beautiful pale garnet with delicate ruby reflections, it opens with a classic and highly perfumed bouquet of ripe red cherries, cranberries, and red plums, intricately layered with fragrant notes of crushed rose petals, sweet violets, pipe tobacco, and a hint of tar. On the palate, it delivers a medium-to-full-bodied experience that drinks exactly like a textbook, premium Barolo. Its vibrant, juicy core of fresh red fruits and savory wild herbs is elegantly framed by firm, present tannins and a crisp line of traditional acidity. Having spent over two years aging in large, traditional Slavonian oak casks, it offers a remarkably velvety texture and superb structural depth, culminating in a long, layered finish accented by notes of dried mint, leather, and Earl Grey tea.

Food Pairing: Wild mushroom ragù, slow-braised duck leg, rich truffle risotto, grilled lamb chops with rosemary, and mature hard cheeses like aged Pecorino or Parmigiano-Reggiano.

92 Points - Wine Spectator

This is beginning to reveal tertiary aromas and flavors of mushroom and autumn woods, along with macerated cherry, rose hip, licorice, iron and leather. Well-structured, fresh and balanced. Drink now through 2030.
