The Story

Castiglion del Bosco Prima Pietra 2017 is an elegant and powerful Super Tuscan crafted from the highest coastal vineyards in Riparbella, Tuscany, situated at an elevation of 450 meters. This organically farmed, Bordeaux-inspired blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot is meticulously vinified and aged for 18 months in French oak barriques. In the glass, it pours a vibrant ruby-red color. The bouquet is broad and complex, offering intense aromas of fleshy red and dark berries, beautifully woven with notes of dark chocolate, cedar, wet earth, and subtle Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, the wine is muscular yet exceptionally harmonious, delivering a concentrated core of dark berry fruit framed by lively acidity and dense, velvety tannins that culminate in a long, grippy, and highly refined finish.

Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with grilled lamb chops, roasted wild game like venison, robust beef stews, and matured aged cheeses like Pecorino Toscano.

93 Points - James Suckling

A juicy, ripe red with blackberry, blueberry and lavender aromas and flavors. Full body with open, silky tannins. Very polished and rich. Needs two or three years to come together. Better after 2022.
