Castiglion del Bosco Millecento Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2010 is the inaugural release of the estate's prestigious Riserva, sourced exclusively from the historic, high-altitude Millecento vineyard planted in schistous galestro soils. Crafted only in exceptional years, this monumental expression of 100% Sangiovese underwent extended maceration and was meticulously matured for 36 months in large French oak barrels followed by resting in unglazed concrete. In the glass, it pours a luminous, deep ruby-red color with classic garnet reflections. The intricately layered nose unveils captivating aromas of ripe black cherries, wild plums, and crushed violets, beautifully interwoven with sophisticated undertones of cedar, graphite, sweet tobacco, iron, and crushed stones. On the palate, the wine demonstrates remarkable power, elegance, and finesse, delivering a deeply concentrated core of dark fruit perfectly balanced by a driving acidity and formidable yet polished tannins, culminating in an extraordinarily long, persistent, and savory finish.
Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with braised short ribs, robust wild boar ragù, roasted lamb, grilled Florentine steaks, truffle-infused dishes, and aged Parmigiano-Reggiano.
96 Points - James Suckling
Very subtle blueberry, floral, black truffle and cherry aromas follow through to a full body, firm and silky tannins and a savory and delicious finish. I love the freshness with richness here that gives the wine a heady vibe. Drink or hold.
94 Points - Wine Spectator
Austere and monolithic, with new oak framing the cherry and blackberry fruit. Shows an element of ripe fruit sweetness midpalate, finishing with a solid structure and excellent length. The oak integrates with aeration, but this remains a thoroughly modern style of Brunello. Best from 2018 through 2032. 800 cases made, 100 cases imported.
